Welcome to the Defeat Autism Now!
E-Newsletter
I’m pleased to introduce this first
edition of the Defeat Autism Now! e-newsletter. This year marks the 40th anniversary of
Defeat Autism Now!’s parent organization – the Autism Research Institute (ARI) - and as
many of you know, Dr. Bernard Rimland is not here with us to celebrate—but he
is with us in spirit!
Dr. Rimland’s long-term vision for ARI
and Defeat Autism Now! was to help the countless families in desperate need of information
to effectively treat their children. This newsletter is one of several
ambitious projects ARI is launching in 2007 as we continue making a concerted
effort to reach families around the world. Autism is Treatable! Recovery is
Possible!
Looking forward to seeing you next
month at the Defeat Autism Now! Conference in Arlington.
Sincerely,
Stephen M. Edelson, PhD, Director, ARI
Parents, Clinicians Converge in Arlington, Virginia
for April Defeat Autism Now! Conference
Defeat Autism Now! is recognized worldwide as the premier conference (for
both parents and clinicians) to come and learn the safest and most effective
biomedical interventions for successfully treating autism. Defeat Autism Now! provides a
decision-making framework for addressing biomedical issues presented by
individuals with autism.
Defeat Autism Now! brings the most credible, knowledgeable speakers on the
subject of treating autism to the podium.
“Science illuminating the metabolic, intestinal,
immunologic, and detoxification
abnormalities in children with autism is moving at breakneck speed. The
Defeat Autism Now! network of parents, clinicians and researchers is at the
forefront of connecting research that makes a difference to treatments that
can lead to improvements in the quality of life for autistic children and
their families. Listen, learn and ask questions of the experts.”

Historical Moments from Seattle Defeat Autism Now! 2006: Before
& After Recovery Videos Now Online
In 2003 and 2004, ARI sponsored two Recovered Autistic
Children events at our Defeat Autism Now! conferences. The first event was held in Los Angeles in October,
2003. We received questions about these onstage interviews because some parents and professionals
were skeptical-they feared that the children were never autistic. Last fall,
we overcame those objections at the historic Seattle Defeat Autism Now! Conference with the
Recovered
Autistic Children Parent Forum. This time,
parents presented videos of their children before and after biomedical
intervention. These videos are a major turning point in the history of
autism.
As you will see, these before and after videos
clearly document each child's recovery from autism. ARI recorded these
presentations and posted them online for free last fall to give every parent
the opportunity to see these stories. From this point on, recovery is clearly
not just possible, but is, in fact, a reality.
Clinicians’ Perspectives:
Jacquelyn McCandless, MD
"My DAN! approach
is basically quite simple; after taking
the history, I test children to see what they're missing for good health and what
toxins or pathogens are preventing their utilization
of proper nourishment. I ask (insist!) that
the parents feed them the diet shown to be best
for them while detoxifying, eradicating pathogen overgrowth, stimulating their brains with
nutrients, education and oxygen, and feeding their hearts
with attention and love (recommended for all
children). With "tough nuts" like my beloved Chelsey, one of the "older non-responders,"
I do all this while continuing to research
even better ways to help her maximize her potential, and since new strategies are always being found, never give up!
Dr. McCandless is grandmother to Chelsey, an
11-year-old girl who has been her primary teacher about autism since 1996.
She wrote Children with Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism
Spectrum Disorder and started the Clinician’s Seminar at Defeat Autism Now! in 2003.
Have you got a question about the Defeat Autism Now!
approach that you’d like to pose to a clinician? Submit it for
a chance to receive a reply in a future issue of the Defeat Autism Now! Newsletter. No
question is off-limits – from complex issues to, well, basics of poop, we
will be happy to forward your questions. We look forward to your submissions.
