Chelation
1. Is DMPS FDA approved?
DMPS (2,3-dimercapto-1-propanesulfonic acid sodium), also known as Dimovol, is a synthetic amino acid chelating agent of toxic heavy metals, which forms a water soluble complex with toxic heavy metals and is excreted. In Germany, DMPS is available as a commercial drug for the treatment of heavy metal toxicity. German studies report safety in animals and humans. DMPS does not appear to be toxic, but because no studies have been completed in the U.S., the FDA considers it experimental.
Doctors from the Defeat Autism Now! Think Tank drafted a consensus paper that includes information about using DMPS to chelate.
2. Is there a resource that answers most chelation questions in one place including:
- Where can I find more information about Chelation Therapy and is it really safe and effective? What are the differences between DMSA, DMPS and other forms?
- What is intravenous chelation?
- What's the difference in hair test, stool test or urine challenge for heavy metal toxicity?
Yes, read the mercury consensus paper.
3. What is intravenous chelation?
Read the mercury consensus paper.
