Defeat Autism Now! -- A Project of the Autism Research Institute
ARI/Defeat Autism Now! is dedicated to educating parents and clinicians regarding research, appropriate testing, and safe and effective interventions for autism. Since 1995, ARI has convened recurring meetings for carefully selected physicians, researchers, and scientists committed to finding effective treatments for autism. Their work has become known as Defeat Autism Now!
Parents and clinicians who do not regard psychotropic drugs as the best or only means of treating autistic patients will welcome this chance to learn effective strategies for addressing the medical illnesses associated with autism.

ARI’s Clinician Registry lists clinicians who provide treatment for children and adults with autism.
In order to better serve the community, ARI has altered the requirements for inclusion on the list of Defeat Autism Now! clinicians. As before, the Autism Research Institute disclaims and does not endorse or support any individual or entity listed; makes no representations, warranties, guarantees or promises on behalf of or for those listed, and assumes no liability nor responsibility for any service or product provided. ARI does not "certify" practitioners or guarantee competence, skill, knowledge, or experience.
We are in the process of revising our list policy. In 2010, ARI’s clinician registry will include four lists:
- Nutrition list: those listed must hold a license or certificate in either dietetics or nutrition. They must be licensed or monitored by a supervisory board at the state or national level.
- Licensed Clinicians: (MDs, DOs, Naturopathic Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician's Assistants.): ARI will list contact information about clinicians who have attended Levels I and II. This training, and their area of specialty, enables them to design complex treatment plans, which might include targeted nutritional supplements, prescription medications, and interpretations of complex laboratory data.
- Allied Health Professionals: all clinicians who have attended the Level I clinician seminar. Some can legally prescribe, but have not yet attended Level II. Some might have attended Level II but don’t write prescriptions, due to the scope of their specialty. RNs, psychologists, homeopaths, chiropractors, dentists, and pharmacists, who have areas of expertise many families will find valuable, are in this category.
- Unlicensed Practitioners – These individuals have attended a Level I seminar in the past, and were taught the basics of biomedical interventions. Note that by the end of 2010, a new policy will be in effect that allows only clinicians licensed by the proper governing body to attend the seminars. At that time, this fourth list will be discontinued.
Currently, the first list includes clinicians who are licensed healthcare providers. There is another list for naturopaths and homeopaths who offer the Defeat Autism Now! approach, who are not required by state law to have a license in their field of practice; they are included on a second list. And finally, there are nutritionists who offer the Defeat Autism Now! approach, who are also not required to have a license to practice this approach.
We strongly recommend that if you are seeking a clinician to help with your child's biomedical needs you interview them to ensure that they are experienced in the various aspects of the approach. View a sampling of recommended questions.
We strongly recommend that you read the introduction located at the top of the list.
